A Hobby of Mine: Jogging

I try to run, most everyday, with the thousands of other people who run on the trail around Town Lake. Lately, I have been jogging between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Am I preparing for a race? Not really. At present, I am just trying to enjoy recreational running and trying to avoid injury. When preparing for a race, I tend to push myself a little too hard, and this leads to injury--pulled muscles and the like.

Lately, learning to dance (Swing, Salsa, C&W) has been such a big priority that I have less time to devote to running.  I find it difficult to work, run and have a life too. I admire those women and men who are more disciplined than me.

My Worst Injury

On November 2, 1997, I injured myself on a long run. I must admit; I have never been injured so badly in my entire life. On the advice of my physician, I took a long lay off (six to eight weeks).  And, he told that when I start back running, I should take it very easy.  "Just run a mile," he said, "and then walk for two."

On January 15, 1998, I starting running again. I purchased an ankle brace, and I have been wearing it to avoid re-injury.

The predictor offers a fair comparison of relative performance under similar conditions and proper training, but it must be noted that there are various factors which affect each individual situation. If you have any questions about the java applet above, please write the author: Hank Gac
